A remembrance is distinct from a homily, which is always preached by the priest or deacon using the readings as the principle source for content. A remembrance is a short reflection ( 5-7 minutes) given by a family member, or close friend of the deceased, specifically to memorialize the deceased in a kind and heartfelt way.
